Artist, actor, director, designer, creator, performer, teacher and writer - Jack of all trades so to speak.
As an actor in his native USA he has worked extensively with Phoenix Theatre, Childsplay, Southwest Shakespeare, Prometheus and Bailiwick Theatre where he was among the Jeff Citation winners of Outstanding Ensemble for Corpus Christi. In London he has performed with Satellite Théâtre, Analogue Theatre Company, London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony and his own Zephyrus Theatre Company. He spent many years as a designer and maker with companies such as Mattel Toys and the New York Toy Fair, The Denver Center Theatre Company, Phoenix Theatre as Prop Master, Dallas Theatre Centre and Red Rocks Community College as Technical Director.
In 2005 Darren received an MFA in Actor Created Physical Theatre from the London International School of Performing Arts in conjunction with Naropa University. He then became a teacher and technical director for LISPA where he focused on design, puppetry and object manipulation, construction, and the fantastical world. Along side LISPA, Darren has also taught movement at the Guildford School of Acting.
In 2009 he founded Zephyrus Productions and has designed sets, props, puppets, parade floats and displays for Sedos, Paper Balloon Theatre, Quicksilver Children’s Theatre, Taru, John Lobb, and London School of Samba.
In recent years, he as ventured into painting, drawing and sculpture as an extension of his exploration of what the materials can do, not just in the fantastical realm, but in the physical world.
